After several months of hard work, the Singapore NCC Command Band – Swiss Winds, Band of the Swiss Cottage Secondary School is proud to announce that we have achieved a DISTINCTION in the recent SYC, which took place on the 9th of March, 2013. The Command Band would like to thank the Director of Music – MAJ Anthony Chew; the teachers in-charge; the alumni, and not forgetting each and every one of our band members. We would not have achieved this prestigious award if it were not for their undying support and constant guidance!
We are proud to announce that after months of hard work, great effort and sacrifices, the Singapore National Cadet Corps Command Band Swiss Winds has managed to clinch a Gold Award in the Hong Kong Winter Band Festival 2012 with a score of 84%! 😀
Besides having the chance to visit some of Hong Kong’s famous landmarks such as the beautiful Avenue of Stars (Symphony of Lights) and walking down Ladies Market for an interesting shopping experience, we also had the opportunity to have an exchange with the local school – Yingwa College and not to mention, a fun and enriching workshop filled with much laughter, enthusiasm and enjoyment with the captivating and amusing Dr Tim Lautzenheiser.
Maximum Impact also did a marching show at Hong Kong Disneyland, performing pieces such as Sleigh Ride and Party Rock Anthem conducted by MSG Tan Yee Leng and the band gave the audience an entertaining show with all the shuffling in between Party Rock Anthem and with our very own Ceremonial Drum Major, MSG Scott Kim dancing the famous gangnam style.
To conclude, the Command Band has had a really enjoyable and interesting time not only performing but also bonding and interacting more with each other during this trip and enjoying thrilling rides and experiences together at Ocean Park and Disneyland, along with a fun time at Tom Lee Music and great enjoyment of delicious local food, and lots of shopping AND bargaining. 😉
The Command Band would like to thank the Teachers-in-Charge of the Command Band, Director of Music MAJ Anthony Chew and parents of our cadets for their constant support which has made this possible and we would also like to say a big big THANK YOU to our dearest teachers who went along with us for the tour for helping and guiding us all the way through the entire trip and showing every single one of our members much care and concern despite any time of the day or night and always being there for us, encouraging and supporting us all through the competition and our performances. 🙂
An eventful day with Swiss Winds in Concert for our visitors playing the pieces Enchanted, Seventh Night of July and Sleigh Ride, conducted by Mr Anthony Chew.
The parade commenced at 1900 hours, even though it poured rather heavily before that and a small band was deployed to rehearse in the MPH for preparation for a wet weather situation during the actual parade.
There were sporadic showers of blessing during the parade but the Command Band stood firm.
MSG Tan Yee Leng conducted one of the pieces played during the parade – Pride Discipline Honour with much confidence despite it being her first time.
The Guest of Honour for the parade was Director – Student Development Curriculum from MOE site, Ms Liew Wei Li.
